You know that feeling you had about that one special dog you owned- the one that made you want to shout from the rooftop that everyone should have THIS dog? Even a non dog lover would find it impossible to resist this dog’s charm. Despite their quirks, owning THIS dog would help solve all the problems one could have- or at least help make the problems seem not so bad. This is how we felt about our first English lab, Aurora. She was as black as the midnight sky, so loving, so loyal and so laid back. With a tendency to consider herself a lap dog, she made herself at home right on top of you- clearly thinking that at 60lbs, she would be welcome to stay there until she had a mind to move.
Aurora had this fierce loyalty to us. We would bring her camping with us and if we left her behind with someone while we went out fishing, she would ditch whoever she was with and swim after whatever watercraft we took from camp. Without fail, we would look back and see this blocky, black head and thick otter tail swimming after us. At home, she would follow us from room to room- even in her arthritic old body, if we left a room, she would slowly get up and follow. We knew she hurt towards the end, but she would let the boys climb and lay on her and she never once snarled. She loved her family and clearly, that was her reason for existing.
The Dream of Breeding Labs Realized
This was the kind of dog that ignited our desire to “clone” her and make sure other families in need of a four legged, hairy family member would have access to the kind of love Aurora gave. We learned the true unconditional love a dog can offer a human from her. When you experience something that wonderful, how can you want to keep it to yourself?
The timing in our early years of loving Aurora was never right to “clone” her, and her pup bearing years passed her by. The stars finally aligned in 2019 when we found a property and house where we could envision raising our family alongside dogs. We brought home our Luna girl, followed by Titan and here we are today, reflecting on all the bumps in the road to realizing our dream. The bumps to getting here were totally worth it for the joy and love that our puppies have given their new families, and us, along the way.
The love of our first lab is what drives the passion and decisions with our program today. We envision the family who is eagerly waiting to bring one of our puppies home and can’t wait for that lifetime of unconditional love. To us, our dogs are part of the family. The heart of our program is, and always will be, the love of and for our dogs.
